Choir Festival gets ready to welcome thousands of singers to Derry this month

The City of Derry International Choir Festival is just around the corner and is set to welcome two thousand singers to the city to take part in concerts, competitions, workshops and community performances from 25 to 29 October.
Singers will be traveling from Denmark, Estonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Sweden and throughout Ireland and the UK to take part in the jam-packed schedule of events that will see choral performances in venues across the city during the 5-day event.
Derry’s stages will be graced by some of the world’s most renowned and loved vocal ensembles; Tenebrae (U.K.) will perform an atmospheric candlelit concert not to be missed on Friday 27 October while a cappella sensation The Real Group (Sweden) will open the festival with a mix of pop, folk and jazz on Wednesday 25 October in St. Columb’s Hall.
Local singers and music enthusiasts are invited to join the visiting groups for a Big Sing Workshop in St. Columb’s Hall on Saturday 28 October, open to all with a love of music. The entertaining and fun workshop explore the building blocks of successful choral singing and will be led by an inspiring and experienced choral director from the international adjudication panel. The Big Sing will take place at 4pm on Saturday 28 October in St. Columb’s Hall and is free of charge.
