We are pleased to announce an exciting new development as part of the fifth edition of the City of Derry International Choir Festival. For the first four years, there has always been a conductors’ workshop/masterclass session as part of the International Symposium. This element has proved so popular that we’ve now decided to devote an entire day to exploring conducting skills and techniques.
The opening day of this year’s festival, Wednesday 25 October, will comprise two conducting workshop sessions. The first of these, 10.30-12.30, will focus on equal voice repertoire, whilst the second, 1.30-3.30, will explore the performance of mixed voice repertoire.
Each session will be led by a member of our international panel of adjudicators and will feature the Chamber Choir of the Ulster University as the resident choir. The sessions will include general discussion on choral training, conducting technique, score preparation, repertoire selection and choir management, as well as detailed responses to issues that arise during the practical sessions with the participating conductors. The workshops will be held in the beautiful surroundings of the Great Hall, located on the Magee Campus of the Ulster University.
Attendance at these sessions is free, but numbers will be limited. If you are interested in attending or if you would like to participate, please register your interest here.
Repertoire will be sent to participating conductors in advance of the workshops to allow time for score preparation.
