Following the success of the first three editions of the City of Derry International Choral Festival, organisers are now looking forward to welcoming more than 60 vocal groups to the city to take part in a five-day festival of competitions, concerts, pop-up performances and educational workshops that really will immerse the city in music. As well as some of the leading vocal groups in the world travelling to take part, the City of Derry International Choral Festival will welcome some of the world’s leading conductors including Harry Christophers CBE (UK, founder and conductor of The Sixteen), Volker Hempfling (Germany, Chair of the Adjudicating Panel), Zoltán Pad (Hungary), Urša Lah (Slovenia), David Brophy (Ireland), Esther Jones (UK) and Ragnar Rasmussen (Norway).

From choral enthusiasts to simply just music lovers, there really is something for everyone to enjoy in this year’s busy schedule. The highlight of the weekend will be the International Competition, to be held on Saturday 22nd October in St. Columb’s Hall. Six choirs from six countries (Indonesia, Poland, the UK, Germany, Ireland and Hungary) will compete for the prestigious “Oak Tree of Derry” trophy and substantial cash prizes.

Artistic Director of the Festival, Dónal Doherty, commented on this year’s line-up, saying “The Festival is already becoming a significant event in the international choral calendar, and this year’s outstanding choirs and adjudicators will raise its profile to an even higher level. We are delighted to announce an exciting and entertaining programme and I really believe there is something there for everyone to enjoy, whether you buy a ticket for one of the headline acts or just discover our visiting choirs on the Choral Trail across the city. It promises to be an inspirational five days of singing and a week not to be missed’’.
