Global Voices to Gather in Derry for International Choir Festival 2026
The City of Derry International Choir Festival will once again welcome an outstanding line-up of international choirs this October, as ensembles from across Europe and beyond travel to the North West to compete for the prestigious Oak Tree of Derry Trophy.
Eight choirs will take to the stage in this year’s International Competition, reflecting the festival’s growing global reputation as one of the leading choral events in the UK and Ireland.
Representing Germany, ChorWerkSaar Chamber Choir and Modus Novus Chamber Choir bring precision and contemporary flair, while Laeta Voce Vocal Ensemble (France) offers a rich and expressive European sound.
From Sweden, Stockholms Musikgymnasium Youth Choir showcases the next generation of elite young singers, and The Alumnae Choir of the Academic Female Choir of the University of Tartu (Estonia) brings a celebrated choral tradition from one of the world’s great singing nations.
Ireland is strongly represented by Dulciana Vocal Ensemble, The Continuettes, and Fabre Ensemble. Spanning a wide range of styles—from contemporary arrangements to traditional repertoire—these groups highlight the depth and diversity of choral singing across the island.
Joining in a special non-competitive capacity, the E. Mikeladze Central Music School Choir (Georgia) adds a further international dimension, sharing a unique and historic vocal tradition.
Together, these ensembles will compete at the highest level for the Oak Tree of Derry Trophy, an award that celebrates excellence, artistry, and international collaboration.
A Festival Across the North West
While the International Competition is a centrepiece moment, the festival extends far beyond the stage. The programme includes national competitions, school competitions, concerts, and a wide range of community events.
From major performances in key venues to pop-up moments across the region, the festival will once again span Derry, Strabane, Letterkenny and the wider North West – creating a vibrant “City of Song” experience for performers and audiences alike.
Entries Open for UK and Ireland Choirs
Entries for national and school competitions remain open until the end of May, inviting choirs from across the UK and Ireland to take part in one of the region’s most exciting cultural events. Find out more here.
As anticipation builds for October 2026, this year’s international line-up promises a powerful celebration of choral music—bringing global voices to Derry and further cementing its place on the world stage.
